With our leading extraction and refinement technology we are able to offer pure, natural CBD which means we can reach the ideal dosage level of 2mg per 1kg of weight. To ensure the correct dosage for your horse use our dosage guide:
For more information on CBD dosage for horses, check out our dosage page.
All Naturecan products contain a syringe to ensure accurate dosing and aid oral administration.
How to dose CBD for horses?
CBD oil can be given orally before food or mixed with food.
For quick results administer the drops under the tongue (sublingually) as the CBD will be absorbed much faster into the bloodstream.
The easiest way to administer sublingually is to face the same way as your horse and use one hand to steady the head and simultaneously lift the lip with a thumb.
Using the other hand, gently introduce the Naturecan syringe into the corner of the mouth (which will likely cause the horse to lick and chew) and use this opportunity to deposit the oil in the space underneath the tongue.
Syringes are included with all our CBD Oils to use for sublingual dosing
Why CBD + CBDA Isolate for Horses
Early studies ⁴ have suggested the combination of CBD and CBDA may have a strong impact on the well-being of our pets, changing the way pet parents think about managing discomfort, stress, itching, cognition, tremors, and many other issues.
CBD works directly with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), one of the body's largest receptor systems. It regulates many vital processes, including sleep, mood, pain, stress and appetite, and is responsible for maintaining balance or homeostasis within the body.
Simply put, whenever the body is out of balance, whether due to irritation, inflammation, discomfort or cognitive issues, the endocannabinoid system’s job is to address the imbalance and bring the body back into a healthy state.
CBD helps the ECS to maintain balance by preventing enzymes from breaking down endocannabinoids (endogenous cannabinoids, produced by the body), which act as chemical messengers within the ECS. Therefore, by enabling endocannabinoids to continue performing their function, CBD indirectly supports the ECS and contributes to a healthy and balanced internal state.
CBDA ⁴, on the other hand, works as an inhibitor. It targets the COX2 enzyme which alerts the body to pain and inflammation, thereby potentially reducing sensations of pain and discomfort.
US research ⁴ indicates that a combination of CBD + CBDA isolate may be the most effective cannabinoid treatment for pets.

Q&A
Can CBD for horses be taken with other medications?
Generally, CBD for pets is very safe to use alongside prescription medicines and supplements. The only medicine group that has been reported to cause interactions with CBD are the benzodiazepines (the most common drugs from this group to be prescribed by vets are diazepam and alprazolam). Reported side effects, when used together with CBD, include drowsiness.
What is the dosage for pets?
Please refer to our dosage chart based on the weight of your pet. Naturecan Pet's proprietary blend of CBD oils is formulated to offer a 2mg per 1kg dosage (morning and evening) based on your horse's weight.
Can the dosage be increased?
CBD is a safe compound and the appropriate dose will vary depending on your pet's requirements. As a result, the dose can be increased to 3mg per kg (morning and evening).
Can topical and ingestible be used together?
Yes. Topical CBD products work transdermally, targeting key areas in the body, while ingested CBD is absorbed through the digestive tract. Use both in combination for optimum results for joint, mood and skin health.
Is CBD Safe for horses?
Naturecan Pet is the only horse CBD range that is able to deliver pet-safe CBD because it is guaranteed 100% THC, flavonoids and terpene free. All products are third-party tested by an external testing laboratory and all results are available on the product page.
Can my pet overdose on CBD?
Overdose on pure CBD has not been reported in pets. Our Certificates of Analysis (CoA) can give you confidence that the product you are buying is pure CBD with no THC or other cannabinoids. It is these compounds that can cause serious harm to horses. Please beware that many pet products advertised as 'pure CBD' do contain dangerous traces of THC, and it is important for buyers to check CoAs. Naturecan Pet CBD is tested under the most stringent laboratory processes in the world, making our products ultra-safe.
Why Choose Naturecan’s CBD for pets?
At Naturecan Pet, our key focus is formulating the best and safest products for your pet. We understand that if paw-rents are searching for horse CBD products, their pet may be ill or need some support to optimise their health, comfort and overall well-being.
With market-leading innovative technology, our priority for pet products is to refine CBD to be pure and safe, in its natural plant form. We do this by taking our Naturecan Broad-Spectrum CBD distillate used in our human range and refining it into a pure CBD and CBDA isolate using advanced chromatography technology. This proprietary blend allows us to offer the highest quality CBD and the correct strength for your pet.
What's the difference between Naturecan’s human CBD and pet CBD?
At Naturecan, product quality and safety are our number one priorities. While our human CBD contains other broad-spectrum hemp compounds alongside CBD which may contribute to enhanced benefits through the entourage effect, there is insufficient evidence that these additional compounds are safe for pets. That's why we remove all traces of terpenes, flavonoids and other cannabinoids from our pet CBD.
We do this by taking our Naturecan Broad-Spectrum CBD distillate used in our human range and refining it into a pure CBD and CBDA isolate using advanced chromatography technology.
What this further refinement process allows us to do is remove all traces of THC, as well as all flavonoids and terpenes, to deliver a safe and consistent CBD + CBDA isolate, guaranteed safe for pets.
Why we use syringes over droppers
We switched from using pipette droppers to syringes for pet tinctures for a few reasons: Although droppers are a typical dosing method for human tinctures, due to safety considerations, they pose a risk for pets. Plastic droppers would gradually degrade the quality of the CBD, hence glass droppers must be used. The quickest approach to deliver CBD and get it into the bloodstream is by sublingual dosing (under the tongue). Since your pet could accidently bite the glass and break the pipette, utilising a glass dropper under an animal's tongue raises safety concerns.
Second, whereas droppers can vary somewhat between drops, a syringe is the most precise and consistent way to dose each time.
Recommendations
If your pet has a pre-existing medical condition or takes prescribed medication, always consult your vet before giving your pet any new dietary supplements. This product is not a treatment or medication. If your pet has symptoms or is unwell, please seek veterinary advice immediately. This product is not suitable for puppies under the age of 12 months.
Is Naturecan CBD safe for my horse?
To ensure the high quality and safety of our products, we carry out a range of tests with independent laboratories. These include cannabinoid potency, elemental (metal) impurities, residual solvents, terpene profiling, pesticides, mycotoxins and microbial testing.
Testing the concentrations of the cannabinoids present in a product is one of the most important tests to carry out. Not only does it verify the label claims and confirm that the CBD content is as high as stated, it also ensures that the products do not contain illicit and intoxicating substances from the cannabis plant such as Delta 9 THC. You can see our testing results on the Certificate of Analysis on this page.
